If you’re struggling with methods and techniques to help you become more competitive and bring more revenue to your bottom line, consider doing something that almost nobody would do - ask your competitors for help. Now obviously this is a tricky road, after all do you think Coke has conversations with Pepsi on how they can market their products more effectively? I’m thinking no. In actuality, if take a look around at the market in your business, are their more successful competitors doing it better than you?

What does opportunity look like? If you’re like a number of would-be entrepreneurs you don’t know. Why? Because we aren’t taught to know what to look for in school or by our parents necessarily. Opportunity is sometimes so vague that some wouldn’t call it that but others can turn something so tiny into a huge opportunity.

When you finally leave your job, you bring with you an armful of things. No, not your stapler (though the red one from Office Space is very nice), but certainly your skills, ideas, work ethic, maybe some clients and contacts (aka your network - see the 5 Commandments for more info). Additionally, you also bring your reputation and your credibility.

When my wife and I got married several years ago, one of our biggest goals we put down on paper was to work where we wanted to live. When I originally wrote those goals, I imagined living on the beach listening to the waves crash on the beautiful white sands of Florida. It’s funny how times change. While I wasn’t born in Florida (I leave that distinction to Michigan), I lived most of my life in FLA. My wife is one of the rare few who was actually born AND raised in Florida and lived all her life there until I was offered a job several years ago in Tennessee when we moved to Nashville.

As recently as 3 years ago my wife and I would be eating at a restaurant and we would wince when we heard the screech of a child. I used to think that the parents should be able to control that child from acting out in public (stop smirking all you parents). Now, fast forward to today. My 2 year old child thinks that singing in any public place is yelling at the top of his lungs and he will do it - just because he can.

I recently had a conversation with a friend about bottled water. When I was a kid, the idea of buying water was ridiculous. Why would you pay for something that came out of your faucet? Who would do that? Today, the market for this silly idea is somewhere between $50 and $100 billion dollars. BILLION. Yikes.

One of the biggest dangers I’ve seen with people and business is how they move forward when they have already experienced success. Not that success itself is the problem, but in some cases it’s the attitude it can bring. Many of those who have succeeded approach their business with a learners mentality. They want to find out about the business, try things out and if it works, they feel pretty good about themselves.

What if I told you there was a magic pill that existed that could give you great looks, excellent health, incredible riches and a love life beyond compare? Would you take it? What if I told you have to take it every day, in order for the benefits to happen, but the changes will be slow, say 3 months before you start to see and feel anything. Another 3 months for it to take full effect and if you were to stop taking them for over a week, the changes would go away quickly.
Would you still take it?

You might be familiar with Google and it’s dominance in the Search Engine market. They literally have turned the internet on it’s ear in a very short time. Well it is no mistake how they got there by hiring really smart people. They do one better than just keep that information to themselves, they share it for free. I love this site and you’ll find some information that you can use too.
