Success doesn’t sit still

To continue on with my idea of keeping your perspective changing, take a look at this site. Markus Frind is the CEO of Plenty of Fish, an acclaimed dating site that has millions of users making connections each day like websites such as Match.com and eHarmony.com, however what makes his site different is there is no fee to use his website.
Last year, Markus received world-wide acclaim when it was revealed that he had made over $900,000(CDN) in two months through his site. No big deal? Other dating websites bring in several times that amount each month right? However what is most remarkable is that Markus runs his business the TRUE Corporate Escape Artist way - by himself out of his apartment. No huge staff of executives, no large IT support group, just himself. Additionally, he is worthy of following as he is an open book. He keeps a blog that basically tells his thoughts on his business, other businesses and what he is planning.
Most recently, he has stated that he is changing his business plan to move his website in a new direction, away from an already successful and proven platform.
What I find most interesting is that people comment on his blog continuously, giving their opinions, stating their ambivalence toward his decision, some applauding others questioning his sanity.
I think that while many find that his success is something too unbelievable (there are those who still doubt he’s actually making any money), many people would be satisfied with the way things are today and just keep their business unchanged. “Why mess with success?” or “Don’t break what doesn’t need fixing” would seem to make logical sense. The bottom line is that truly successful people don’t simply sit still, they are vastly aware of the changing market place and it requires plenty of awareness to not just maintain what you have, but to accelerate your growth.
I think Markus’ lead is admirable and a great case study, if you are going to enter the entrepreneurial world, keep this in mind - if you’re thinking about joining this group know that just because you’ve come up with a great idea doesn’t mean you “set it and forget it” - the markets won’t let you.
